Fragrance scented jewelry has been used throughout the ages for reasons ranging from the religious to the medicinal to the practical. Once treated with utmost reverence, aromatherapy jewelry was intended as a form of adornment and as a means to protect the body and soul from the unknown.

The Etruscans were the earliest known peoples to use perfume-holding jewelry between the years of 800-200 BCE. Between 1600 and 1800 CE, Europeans used hand-held fragrance containers to combat unpleasant odors and rid the surrounding air of disease. As of the 18th century, aromatic jewelry started to shift from the sacred to the ornamental, moving squarely into the realm of art jewelry until the end of the 20th century. Most recently, western cultures have returned to the age-old custom of carrying natural plant extracts close to their skin as a means of improving mood and gaining mindfulness through aromatherapy.

The Aromatherapy Fragrance Bottle was designed by jeffreydavid to carry perfumes or essential oils on absorbent pads which will gradually release their healing effects throughout the course of the day or evening. Each piece is designed in sterling silver with hinged closures to ensure their use well into the next century.
