Chrysin also known as Flavon X or 5,7 Dihydroxyflavone is naturally found in Passiflora coerulea L, a member of the passion flower family.

Chrysin is attributed with a number of pharmacological properties including anticonvulsant action and anxiety reducing effects. An important biological property of chrysin is its role in modulating the cytochrome P-450 enzyme activity in the liver. One of these enzymes, cytochrome P-450 aromatase, is responsible for the conversion of androstenedione and testosterone into estrogens and therefore helps to maintain the gender-related hormonal balance.

Chrysin supplementation would therefore particularly help athletes taking testosterone boosters. Increased testosterone production tends to simultaneously increase aromatase-induced estrogen production, resulting in unwanted physiological changes.

Chrysin could help in such cases by inhibiting aromatase activity and the resultant estrogen production.
